Not only for sweet tooths: Learn how Lübeck's delicacy is made in the Marzipan Salon. Try this fine almond speciality in the Niederegger Café and take artistic creations home with you.
The marzipan's triumphal march around the world began in Lübeck. Georg Niederegger (1777 - 1856) founded the manufactory, which is still based in Lübeck and is still family-owned today. The famous Café Niederegger with the Marzipan Salon is located in the middle of the old town, directly opposite the town hall. On the second floor, the Salon presents the history of the "harem confection" and takes you on a long journey through time, which the almond speciality has travelled from the Orient to Lübeck over many centuries. The most beautiful marzipan souvenirs of the Hanseatic city, especially the magnificent Holsten Gate made of pure marzipan, can be purchased on the ground floor.
